Since its charitable status foundation in 1969 by Sir John Dankworth and Dame Cleo Laine, The Stables has been highly successful in achieving its vision to provide a centre for playing, enjoying and learning about music in all its forms. It has attracted some of the most prestigious performers on the world stage, establishing a reputation for consistently high-quality performances. In 2000 the wonderful new £4.4m Stables building was opened providing the region with a world class venue to inspire present and future generations. Seven years on we are now welcoming 10,000 new people who visit us for the first time every year for concerts or education courses. This means that the building is frequently operating at full capacity and some of the key components dropped from the first capital project are desperately needed to help The Stables operate more successfully. As a result, and with the support of a second capital lottery award from Arts Council England and a public appeal, in autumn 2006 we embarked on our second major capital project: The Stables – The Next Stage.
Box Office revenue and Arts Council funding is not enough to cover the cost of presenting the volume of quality concerts and developing The Stables innovative education and outreach work. The Stables is therefore dependant on the ongoing support of its regional community. As a registered charity, we can accept donations from individuals, businesses and charitable trusts and foundations.
