Courtney Pine dons his curator’s hat for the first ever Destin-e Records weekender with three special nights of contemporary jazz showcasing artists from his own record label.
Performances are from the label’s award-winning rising stars Empirical, acclaimed Cuban electric violinist Omar Puente, and distinctive London–based guitarist Cameron Pierre. (Now replaced with Nikki Yeoh.)
“…It’s very much about the future; if you want to know what the progressive jazzers of tomorrow are likely to sound like, just tune in to what the eclectic Pine and his peers are up to today.” Metro
Classically-trained jazz violinist Omar Puente has developed his own sound, drawing together elements of jazz, classical and the music of his native Cuba. His CV reads like a music-lover’s dream; this ex-member of the Cuban Boys has worked with Ruben Gonzales, Tito Puente, Ibrahim Ferrer, Jools Holland, Kirsty MacColl, Tony Bennett, the Afro-Cuban Allstars, the Reggae Philharmonic Orchestra, Jason Yarde, Byron Wallen – the list goes on and on!
