Phronesis excite, inspire and move people in a way that few jazz bands are able to do. Since the release of their second album Green Delay in 2009, Phronesis, led by Danish double-bassist Jasper Høiby, have captured the hearts and minds of British audiences and developed a fierce reputation as one of the most formidable trios in the UK, nominated for Best Jazz Act in the prestigious 2010 MOBO awards alongside Brad Mehldau and John McLaughlin. Høiby’s compositions are anchored on powerful, melodic and often hypnotic bass grooves, whilst pianist Ivo Neame’s continually unfolding melodic lines and drummer Anton Eger’s astonishingly accomplished rhythmic textures combine to create a vibrant distinctive sound.
