The Warsaw Village Band
It’s the Polish Pogues! Winners of a BBC World Music award, this band have taken ancient Polish traditional music and revamped it for a new generation – and what a revamp! They call it “bio-techno” – it’s got hyponotic trancey rhythms, open throat “white voice” singing and tons of punky attitude, played on instruments like hurdy gurdy, frame drums, cello, cimbalom & szuka (that’s a fiddle that you play with your fingernails). This is hardcore folk we’re talking about here, from an outfit that’s not so much a band as a force of nature!
Check out a video of them below, just press play.
