Welsh National Opera presents Sweetness and Badness Secondary Schools Performance
This newly commissioned chamber opera for secondary schools is a high-energy, high-impact piece of musical theatre about peer pressure, risk, adrenalin, love and jealousy. In a wild place near the railway tunnel, a young man, excluded and friendless, spends most of his time. It is vital he knows how long the train takes to pass through the tunnel. The young man races trains.
Performed by 5 young singers from the Chorus of Welsh National Opera and musicians from the WNO orchestra, Sweetness And Badness was written by Michael Wicherek, the Artistic Director and writer in residence of Box Clever Theatre, specialising in powerful contemporary theatre for young people. The score is written by Will Todd, who is currently writing an opera for Streetwise Opera, and also has an opera which is about to hit Broadway. It is directed by the exciting young director Jonathan Munby, who has most recently directed the RSC’s acclaimed presentation of The Complete Canterbury Tales. Suitable for ages 13-17 years. The performance is relevant to Key Stage 3 PSHE, and GCSE or Post-16 students of music, music technology, drama, English and sociology. Teachers pack and online resources are available. Contact the Stables Education Department for details.
